The South Tyrolean Marende is traditionally eaten in the afternoon (between lunch and dinner) and consists of South Tyrolean speck, Schüttelbrot bread and a glass of wine. It is also often accompanied by a Kaminwurz and cheese. Today, the Marende is still a tradition among farmers and can also be found on the menus of mountain huts and restaurants.
