The Dolomites Region Seiser Alm in South Tyrol blends together hiking and culture like no other region. Kofel Walk in Castelrotto

The village of Castelrotto is characterised by its historic village square with a neo-classical parish church, Baroque church tower and frescoed houses. The many atmospheric cafes and shops in the town also offer wonderful opportunities for a relaxing break and a browse.

The Monte Calvario/Kalvarienberg hill, known locally as the Kofel, is home to the only group of chapels of its kind in South Tyrol. The Kofel Walk is a short, leisurely walk which boasts an incredible view of the village of Castelrotto and the Sciliar. The shrines and near life-sized wooden sculptures lining the route represent the passion of Christ.

Oswald von Wolkenstein Path in Siusi allo Sciliar

The idyllic village of Siusi allo Sciliar lies at the foot of the Sciliar, which, with its distinctive shape, is the emblem of South Tyrol. This village is the perfect set-off point for hikes and walks in the Alpe di Siusi Dolomites Region and offers wonderful adventures for adults and along the many themed trails that weave their way through the endlessly fascinating landscape.

The Oswald von Wolkenstein Path is an easy family walk lined with fascinating adventure stations along the route which narrate the history of the Middle Ages. The trail leads you in the footsteps of poet and knight Oswald von Wolkenstein to the ruins of Castelvecchio/Hauenstein, his erstwhile home, and to the ruins of Salego/Salegg, of which very little remains today. An underground passageway connected the two castles, and legend tells that a hoard of gold and silver was hidden here at one time

The panoramic village of Fiè allo Sciliar is a much-loved holiday destination, especially amongst nature lovers. Visitors to Fiè allo Sciliar, home-town of the hay bath, can also enjoy a relaxing, peaceful break at Laghetto di Fiè Lake, which is ranked as one of the cleanest lakes in Italy.

The Aica di Fiè/Oachner Höfeweg Farm Trail, a stunning walking route through the ever-changing natural and cultural landscape around Fiè allo Sciliar, leads you to old farms and inns, vineyards and chestnut groves. This walk is particularly picturesque in springtime when the meadows are blossoming all around and in autumn, when the leaves of the trees glow in myriad beautiful hues. On a visit to Prösels Castle you can take a trip back in time to the Middle Ages, and if you take a guided tour you can visit more of the Knight’s Hall, the castle chapel and other fascinating areas of the Renaissance castle and grounds.
